A small village named Maina is located in South-Goa and is known for the beauty of its nature. The fields, lake,chapels and the roads makes this village beautiful.


The St. Rita of Cascia church is called Santa Rita de Cassia Igreja em Maina in Portuguese. This church is dedicated to Saint Rita of Cassia The original chapel of St.Rita was a part of Curtorim parish and it was built in 1782. Maina was elevated into a parish in the year 1960.The St. Rita's Church was inaugurated on 22nd May 1999 and its feast is celebrated in January every year.



There are two schools in Maina, the St Rita's High School is a government school,it provides education to the students from pre-primary to 10th std while the other school that is Little fingers kinder garden is a private school and it provides education to the students who are studying in pre- primary to 4th standard. Infront of the church there is a playground and also there is a small market that includes shops such as grocery shop, stationary shop, salons, tailor's shop and so on Also people sit with the fruits, vegetables,fish to sell. A corporation bank that is now the Union bank is also located in the market.


Maina celebrates the unique feast of Khandi Khuris every year on 20th August .Khandi Khuris means cross near the sluice gate and it has been associated with the harvest and this
tradition was started by farming community who maintain the nearby Khandi Khuris chapel. It is believed that the Handi khuris has the power to grant miracles. Many people have strong faith in the handi khuris The feast masses are celebrated at the St. Rita of Cascia Church and then the parish priest blesses the sluice gate and the miraculous cross around noon. On the feast day thousands of devout pilgrims from all over Goa, irrespective of their faith wait patiently in long line for many hours to venerate the cross in fulfilment of vows. Later food, soft drinks and cake distributed to devotees through temporary stalls set up on the roadside. Some people receive food packets and the leftover food is distributed to oldage homes and orphanges
.

On the way to Khandi Khuris you will spot road lined with coconut trees on both sides. It is one of the prettiest picturesque road in Maina. Even you can see the overlooking green fields on either side of the road .It is the beauty of farmers strong hardwork.Crops like paddy, rabi ,sugarcane and different types of vegetables are grown here by the farmers.You will spot the adorable beauty of Maina lakeside which is filled with lotuses. The lake water is stored to irrigate the crops in winter season in khazan fields. Here you can see many birds as it's a natural hotspot for the birds.One can spend some time around the fields, lakes or trees to look out for the birds. You can drive the area and then walk around spending some pleasant time by nature's beauty.

This scenic beauty with coconut trees, fields and lake filled with lotuses and birds make the Maina village more attractive.
